William 'Bill' Leyser Obituary
William "Bill" Leyser, age 85, of Kankakee passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Westwood Oaks in Kankakee. He was born October 21, 1939 in Chicago, the son of Fredrick J. Leyser & Theresa F. Mueller. Bill married Verna Thinnes on March 10, 2014 at St. Viator Church in Las Vegas.
Bill was a machinist for Spraying System Company for 40 years until retiring to Las Vegas. He loved collecting coins, fishing, and following the stock market. Bill enjoyed road trips with his wife, Verna, across the United States. Most of all, Bill loved spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Verna Thinnes of Kankakee; one brother, John E. Leyser of Mason, MI; two stepdaughters, Angie (Cynthia) Thinnes of Kankakee and Sharon (Jay) Steffan of Custer Park; two stepsons, Paul Thinnes of Midway, AR and James (Brenda) Thinnes of Lombard; five grandchildren, Ben Stojack, Rhiannon ThinnesXander Thinnes, Rory Steffan, and Connor Steffan; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary C. Leyser and Charlotte Peter.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the 11 a.m. memorial service on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Maternity B.V.M. Catholic Church in Bourbonnais. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Uplifted Care.
