Green Vally, AZ - Wally was born in Chicago, Illinois to Kurt and Hertha Mohr (both immigrants from Germany). Wally grew up in Chicago and attended Chicago public schools. Brothers Kurt and Ron preceded him in death.
As a teen ager, Wally was very active in various church youth programs and decided to enter the Christian ministry. He graduated from Elmhurst college with majors in history and psychology, Garrett theological seminary with a Master of Divinity degree and Chicago Theological Seminary with a Doctor of Ministry degree. Between his junior and senior years in college, Wally volunteered for the draft and served in the army signal corps for two years.
Wally met his wife Faye in 1960 while both were serving as summer youth camp counselors and they were married on April 8, 1961. They had two children Larry and Jennifer, three grandchildren Ally, Libby and Michael and one great-grandchild Louisa.
Wally was ordained into the ministry of the United Church of Christ in 1966 and served local churches until 1990 when he returned to school to become a certified counselor, which he continued to do until his retirement in 1999. In his retirement, he volunteered as teacher, worship leader and pastoral counselor until his cancer diagnosis in 2023. He also served as a tour guide at Tumacácori National Historical Park for eight years. He enjoyed bringing spirituality into his historic tours.
During their 63 years of marriage, Wally and Faye were avid campers and visited most of our National Parks (some numerous times.) They moved to Green Valley, Arizona in 2001 and have loved their life in the mountain-desert setting. Wally especially enjoyed the mountain view from their home.
Wally did not wish to have his memorial service to be a celebration of life. Instead he wanted his service to be a celebration of faith. Therefore, Wally wrote his own memorial service and it is available to read online at: https://larmohr.smugmug.com/Wally-Mohr-Memorial/Wally-Mohr-Memorial-Service-Doc/n-XwM9Kk for those who wish to read it. Life was good and Wally felt blessed to the very end!
