Herscher, IL - Thomas J. Lindsay, age 78, of Herscher, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at his home.
He was born May 10, 1946, in Kankakee, the son of Thomas R. & Eloise Riggs Lindsay.
Thomas attended Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School and went on to Bradley University in Peoria, where he graduated in 1968 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
In 1969, he entered the U.S. Navy and was stationed with an intelligence unit in Bremerhaven, Germany.
After the service, he was employed as a computer programmer for Household Finance Corporation in downtown Chicago.
In 1979, he began building his own business: Lindsay Publications Inc., a mail order book sales and publishing company with contacts and customers from all countries around the world.
Thom was a man of many interests and talents. He built his own computer and radios while still in high school. He was an avid photographer who had his own dark rooms wherever he lived and even built his own stereo camera and other equipment. He also possessed a ham radio license and enjoyed deciphering Morse Code from freight ships crossing the Atlantic Ocean.
He was a self-taught classical guitarist. He had a penchant for watercolor. He was also a papermaker and a brewmaster just to name some of his unique talents.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Greg Lindsay of Montreal, Quebec and Todd & Catherine Lindsay of Bourbonnais; four grandchildren, Nathan, Adelyn, Teddy and Whitaker Lindsay; one sister, Kathy Lindsay Gradberg of Kankakee; and one brother, Bob Lindsay of Ham Lake, MN.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais.
