Thomas J. Frogge, age 72 of Kankakee, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Lightways Hospice in Joliet. He was born August 2, 1952 in Kankakee to Calvin and Marietta (McCue) Frogge.
Survived by brother Jim (Maggie) of Kankakee; nieces Jessica (Saif Rathore) of Chicago and Sarah of Milwaukee; nephew Nathan (Joanne) of Kirkwood Mo; great-nieces and great-nephew; and a special friend, Bertha Howisen of Kankakee.
Tom was a 1970 graduate of Bishop McNamara High School, where he played football and participated in track and field. He attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Master of Arts degree in English Literature and Master of Arts degree in English Education.
He enjoyed sharing his love of literature and classic authors during his years of teaching at McNicholas Catholic High School and Summit Country Day School in the Cincinnati area, and through his volunteer roles with museums. Tom would serve as a reader of Edgar Allen Poe poetry for special Cincinnati museum events. He also served as a tutor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Cincinnati.
Tom's passion for literature stirred his adventurous spirit. He was deeply influenced by the author Thoreau, and believed that simplifying his life and escaping societal institutions were key. Tom's adventures took him to Alaska and Colorado to raise and mush sled dogs, to Louisiana to work on oil rigs, to Hawaii and Seattle and then home to his roots on the family farm in Papineau.
Many will fondly remember Tom's ability to recall details of movies and literature, enabling him to prevail at trivia matches and outwit his friends.
Private services will be held at Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home, St. Anne. Burial will be in the Papineau Township Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Bishop McNamara Catholic School Foundation, 550 W. Brookmont Blvd, Kankakee Il 60901.
