Clifton, IL - Ronald P. Hoekstra, age 86 of St. Anne, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at LaBella of Clifton. He was born on April 15, 1939, in Wichert, IL, the son of Peter and Elizabeth (DeGroot) Hoekstra. Ronald married Carol J. Hofer on December 7, 1955, at First Reformed Church of Wichert. She preceded him in death on February 21, 2024.
Ron was a farmer in Wichert who loved farming. In his early farming life, with his father (Central Glad Farms), they raised gladiolus, vegetables, and grain. In his later years, he was known as Ron's Melon Market. He grew lots of cantaloupes, which were shipped throughout the Midwest. He was always eager to lend a helping hand.
He loved holidays and gatherings where his family could all be together. His Life was his family, and he was an avid NASCAR fan.
Surviving are four daughters, Debra (Kim) Collings of Bee Branch, AR, Rhonda (Cary) Turner of Mackinaw, IL, Karen (Ed) Wielgus, and Paula (Mike) Baranowski, all of St. Anne; one sister, Carol (Sid) Verdoorn of MN; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.
Ronald is preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents; one brother, Dale; two sisters, Elaine DeVries and Betty Tiggelaar.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the 11:30 a.m. service on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at First Reformed Church of Wichert. Rev. Randy Knoll will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the St. Anne Township Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Reformed Church of Wichert or to Uplifted Care.
