Kankakee, Illinois - They say you can't fill another man's shoes! A truer statement was never said in reference to Robert "Bob" Granger. He passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Thursday, June 5, 2025, after spending his golden years suffering from dementia. He entered this world on February 8, 1947 to Robert L. and Alice Lambert Granger and shared his life with his sister Carol and brother Edward. There was always laughter in this close-knit family.
On October 12, 1968, he married Irene Clements, and started another new chapter of his life. Most of the wedding plans were made at the bowling alley where Bob bowled at least three times a week, sometimes early and late shift on the same night.Bowling continued to be a big part of his life, being the secretary of the Kankakee Bowling Association for years, where he was inducted into the Bowlers Hall of Fame in 1997. He was responsible for introducing and designing the KBA Ring. He also bowled for 25 years in the American Bowling Congress tournaments, making memories with lifelong friends. He was also affiliated with the Midwest Bowlers Association and the Senior PBA.
He owned and operated B.I.T.'s Tavern for 15 years hosting many fundraisers to help anyone in need. So many friends and cherished memories within those four walls.
He loved spending time with friends and family in the Smoky Mountains.
Continuing to share his love and generosity, he was a loving foster father to many children God put in our care.
He shared his life and love with his wife, Irene; three children, Robert, Nicole McLelland Sego (John) and Richard Austin; four grandchildren, Evelyn Jo (Mateo) Collazo, Emily Mary McLelland, John Logan Sego II, and Hope Faith Granger; one sister, Carol A. Gard; one nephew, John R. Gard; two sisters-in-law, Gloria J. Granger, Sister Mary Beth Clements SSCM; one aunt, Armeline McCawley; many cousins, friends and special people in his life, especially his special fur baby, Honey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents; one brother, Edward; one brother-in-law, John Gard; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
We wish to thank Citadel Care Facility in Kankakee and Hospice for the love and care given to him and us during his time of need.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025 at St. John Paul II West Campus, Kankakee.
