Rev. Clinton Max Sweet, age 96, of Kankakee passed away Sunday, April 6, 2025 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. He was born May 17, 1928 in Iowa, the son of Carriel & Mildred Merle (LaPlount) Sweet.

Clinton was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II, stationed in the Philippines.

Following his time in the military, he met and fell in love with Darlene Elaine Ellefson. They had many happy years together until she passed away on March 2, 2018.

Rev. Clinton was a pastor for over 40 years. He loved being a pastor, as his favorite verse states: "And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry." 1 Timothy 1:12. Even as he faced death he was still telling others about Jesus.

Clinton loved to go to garage sales with his family. He loved flipping cars and properties and redoing upholstery.

Clinton was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. All who knew him loved him. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are one daughter, Deanna (Gary) Nitschke of Kankakee; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Chad) Dalton of Kankakee and Jennifer (Jeff) Anderson of Rosemont, MN; ten great-grandchildren, Nolan, Riley, Megan, Natalie, Jackson, Montana, Keighan, Shyanne, Bailley, and Ella. In addition to his wife, Darlene Sweet, Clinton is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of the 4 p.m. funeral service on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at Grace Baptist Church in Kankakee. Private interment, with military honors, will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church for their upcoming mission trip.
