Bradley, Illinois - Joyce M. Stark Shelby, 83, formerly of Bradley, IL died peacefully Sunday, February 16, 2025 in Bedford, Texas.
She was born May 21, 1941, the daughter of Joseph A. and Anna Veda Goggins Stark in Cullom,IL. She attended Bradley Bourbonnais HS and got her GED.
Joyce married Thomas Shelby from Chicago in 1957. They enjoyed 33 years together until his death in 1990. She is dearly loved and missed by her children, Cimber Shelby of Euless, TX, Jack and Jessie Shelby, of Tuckerman, AR; her brother and sister-in law, Thomas and Mary Stark of Chebanse IL: 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In her early years, Joyce was a den mother for the Chebanse Cub Scouts. She was a fun room mother. She felt her greatest accomplishment was being a great wife and mother. Joyce worked for Sears in their catalog department. She later sold insurance for Prudential, then retired from Jewel Food Stores after 12 years of service in 2011.
Joyce was a member with AMORC and Master Of The Rosicrucian Lodge, 3 times in Hammond, IN. Joyce also earned her clinical hypnosis license in 2008, and was proud she helped lots of people quit smoking. She was a member of the Bourbonnais Red Hat Society, The Moose Lodge in Bradley, as well as a member of Kankakee Helpmates Group.
Mrs. Shelby was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; son, James; her parents; sister, Joan Collins; and brother-in-law, John Collins.
One of Joyce's treasured memories was swimming with the dolphins in Hawaii with her daughter.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. May 17,2025 at St's. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Chebanse, IL. Burial will be at Chebanse Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon/celebration of life to follow at Chebanse Community Building 185 S. Chestnut, Chebanse, IL 60922. Everyone is welcome.
