Kankakee, IL - Joan D. Welch, 88, of Kankakee, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Miller Health Care Center in Kankakee.
Joan was born on July 10, 1936, in Pontiac, IL., the daughter of Jess and Kathryn (Collins) Ross. She married Harold H. Welch on June 21, 1954, in Pontiac, IL., at the First Presbyterian Church. In her early years, Joan worked at Pontiac Bank, and Kankakee Ropers for 10 years before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of the DAR, loved reading, putting puzzles together, sewing, birdwatching, and spending the winters in Texas.
Joan is survived by her 3 sons, Eric (Kelly) Welch, Scott (Jacque) Welch, Mark (Jennifer) Welch; 8 grandchildren, Stephanie Bertrand of Limestone, Erica(Ryan) Billingsley of Bourbonnais, Eli Welch of Kankakee, Kelsey (Frank) Shipley of Bourbonnais, Zachary and Taylor Welch of Nevada, Michael Waller and Samantha Welch of California; 6 great grandchildren, Ginger and Lola Bertrand of Limestone, Josie and Presley Billingsley of Bourbonnais, Colson and Crue Shipley of Bourbonnais.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband; parents; 2 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Wynonna and Ray Clark, Fay and Eugene Cook.
An internment for Joan will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with her husband, Harold H. Welch, on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 10:30 am. Jensen Funeral Home in Kankakee is handling the arrangements.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made to the Dementia Society of America.
