George Edward Moon Obituary

Richmond, Kentucky - Mr. George Edward Moon, 89, widower of Marilyn R. Beland Moon (d. 2018), passed away peacefully at the Telford Terrace Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Kentucky on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

The story of George begins like what many people dream of - he was truly born into show business when on June 8, 1935, while his parents, George Carson Moon & Pauline Ruth Reno Moon, were in Bluefield, WV, for a show with his grandfathers, Reno's Funmakers. George's grandfather, Edward Austin Reno & Grandfather, Edward Munn Reno, were pioneers in the magic entertainment field of illusions on the Circuit Chautauqua and the rural Redpath route. The great depression, along with WWII, brought the show off the road a few years later, and George & his family settled in Kankakee, Illinois.

After graduating from high school where he was part of the ROTC, George would further his education by going to college and would major in business, chemistry and art (oil painting to be exact), and then would enroll at Governors State College where he earned his Masters Degree in Environmental Studies.

Following a tenure in business management, Mr. Moon, along with a business partner and a dream, started their own battery manufacturing company called Pilot Industrial Batteries, in Kankakee, and over the years, would grow that company to be #6 in the world. After selling the very successful business, Mr. Moon began working as a consultant for the battery industry and was sought after for his advice and opinion worldwide. He was the president of the International Battery Manufacturer Association (IBMA) and was proud of his accomplishment.

Upon his retirement in Florida, Mr. Moon would start exploring with another venture that he always had interest in - writing. From being a guest columnist in newspapers, writing technical articles for trade magazines and then having his first, of five, novels published, Reno's Funmakers in 2011.

He is survived by: his children, George David Moon (Debora), Paul E. Moon (Mardee), Crystal Hays, Michael R. Moon (Christine), and Sylvia Ruth Ritter (Scott); his aunt, who was like his sister, Sylvia Gladys Lipton, whom he lovingly called "Dodo", since their childhood; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren (two more on the way), and 1 great-great-grandchild; as well as a host of other extended family and friends.

A family committal service will be held at a later date with internment at the Mound Grove Cemetery, in Kankakee, Illinois.

The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, is in charge of the arrangements. www.cpcfh.com
