Evelyn M. Schalmo, age 93, of Kankakee passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Prairieview Lutheran Home Faith Place. She was born November 4, 1931 in Cullom, the daughter of William & Etta (Mueller) Haag. Evelyn married Howard Schalmo in Cullom on September 12, 1953. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2001.
Evelyn was a homemaker. She was a volunteer at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Evelyn enjoyed dancing and shopping with her grandchildren.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Bourbonnais.
Surviving are one son, Gary Schalmo (LuAnn Reid) of TN; one daughter, Cheryl (Ken) Hille of Ashkum; one brother, Floyd Haag of Cullom; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the 11:30 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at the American Lutheran Church in Bourbonnais. Interment will follow at Kankakee Memorial Gardens in Aroma Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lutheran Church or Prairieview Lutheran Home.
