Momence, IL - Elwood L. Line, 93, of Momence, IL, died on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at his home in Momence, IL.
He was born on January 29, 1932, in Momence, IL, the son of Lawrence G. and Helen Elizabeth Cole Line.
Elwood married JoAnne L. "Butch" LeBeau on April 5, 1953, in Momence, IL. She survives.
He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnne L. "Butch" Line of Momence, IL; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Kathy Line of Momence, IL and Kurtis and Katy Line of Lake Village, IN; his four siblings, Eugene Line of Surprise, AZ, Margaret Line Sanders of Huntley, IL, Donna McGinnis of Biloxi, MS, and Robert and Carol Line of Kankakee, IL; his two grandchildren, Nanette and Micheal Thyfault and Ashlee and Nathan Latham; and four great-grandchildren, Brycin, Irelynn and Riggs Latham and Grady Thyfault.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Denise Varboncouer; and son-in-law James Varboncouer.
Elwood was a lifetime Momence farmer and cattleman. He enjoyed farming with his sons. He and JoAnne owned and operated Elwood Line Grain and Fertilizer for 34 years, where neighbors and customers became lifelong friends.
Elwood serviced a great capacity within his hometown and was a member of the Momence Chamber of Commerce for many years holding the position of secretary, treasurer and president. He also served on the Momence School Board for 25 years, a member of the Moose and Odd Fellows. He continued to serve in the farming community serving in the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association. He also attended the St. George Catholic Church in Bourbonnais, IL.
Elwood's passion was farming and enjoyed going to auctions. He often invented gadgets and things to solve problems around the farm and daily life.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence, IL. The funeral service ill be held at 5:00PM, Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence, IL. Rev. Vern Arsenaeu will officiate. Inurnment will be at the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the St. George Catholic Church in Bourbonnais, IL, Uplifed Care of Kankakee and or the Momence FFA Chapter.
