Manteno, Illinois - Carole J. Sandlin, age 83, of Manteno, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
Born in Kankakee on August 7, 1941, she was the daughter of Ambrose and Florence (VanSlette) Legris. Carole married Gerald Sandlin on January 18, 1964, at Maternity BVM Catholic Church, sharing 61 wonderful years of marriage.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grand- and great grandmother. Carole worked as a bank teller, administrative assistant, and activities director, retiring from the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno in 2014. A devout Catholic, she also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and volunteering in her community through the Junior Women's Club of Kankakee. For over 40 years, Carole and Gerald created cherished handmade Christmas ornaments together.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald; two sons, Jason Sandlin of Palm Bay, FL, and Michael Sandlin of Elmhurst, IL; two daughters, Melissa Sandlin (Sean) Gahagan of Baltimore, MD, and Julie Steen of Las Vegas, NV; one brother, Michael Legris of Bradley, IL; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Margie Legris.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation for friends and family will be held Sunday, May 4, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Main St., Manteno.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Catholic Charities.
