Kankakee, IL - Allen Matthew Kohl, age 79 of Kankakee, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. He was born July 13, 1945, in Kankakee, the son of August and Irene (Matthews) Kohl. Allen married Patricia Fields on November 26, 1966, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bradley. She preceded him in death on October 8, 2015.
Allen was a machinist for over 40 years. He liked fixing things around the house, taking them apart, figuring out how they worked, and making them run more efficiently.
Allen loved going to church and helping at the local food pantry. He enjoyed gardening and caring for his fruit trees. Allen liked bowling and golfing. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and grand puppies.
Allen was a parishioner of St. Theresa Catholic Church and St. John Paul II in Kankakee.
Surviving is one son, Mark (Betsy) Kohl of MD; one daughter, Krista Kohl (Travis Stucky) of CA; three sisters, Sharon (Gene) Tomascewski of FL, Eileen (Bill) Hammond of Kankakee, Barbara McKee of WY; one brother, Norman (Melodie) Kohl of FL; five grandchildren, Mark and Heather Kohl, Jaxon, Arya, and Sophia; fiancé, Daryl Devlin.
Allen is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his parents; and one half-brother, Francis Kohl.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the 11:00 a.m. memorial Mass on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Kankakee. Private inurnment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kankakee.
Memorials may be made to Kankakee Catholic Food Pantry, St. John Paul II Parish.
